Summary

[edit]
Description

c/n unknown. Built at Castle Bromwich, JG891 was transferred to the Royal Australian Air Force in April 1943 as 'A58-178'. It crashed on landing and rolled over in New Guinea in January 1944 and next surfaced in New Zealand in 1974 as a stripped hulk. Registered as ZK-MKV, a restoration began using parts of EF545 but in 1999 it moved to Historic Flying at Audley End. She flew again in November 2006, now owned by Tom Blair and painted as 'T-B', a genuine scheme for a 249sqn aeroplane. Displayed in the UK throughout 2007, in early 2008 she moved to the USA and became N624TB. In July 2009 she joined Comanche fighters as N5TF and flew as 'RS-T' until a landing accident in July 2017 saw her returned to the UK for repairs, swapping with 'EP122', which was UK based at the time. She flew again only very recently and has returned to her 249sqn colours, although not, as yet, with the volks filter she was originally restored with. Looking gorgeous, she is seen taxiing in with Steve Hinton at the helm, after taking part in a USAF Heritage Flypast with a P-51 and F-35 Lightning II. 2018 Flying Legends Airshow. Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK.
