Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Demonstrating a superconductivity at the boiling temperature of liquid nitrogen (77 K) using the 90 K superconductor YBa2Cu3O7. A little boat 'Thomas' levitates due to the Meissner effect. A superconductor excludes all magnetic flux from inside its volume. This is because there is no electrical resistance and when brought close to a neodymium magnet, the current will be set up by Lenz’s law to oppose the change causing it. Therefore, the superconductor acts something like a magnetic mirror, creating an image of the same magnetic pole as it’s brought near, and repelling it.
