Summary
[edit]DescriptionSunset from Subarnarekha River.jpg |
English: Subarnarekha River is also referred as the Swarnarekha River and it flows through various Indian states of Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand. According to the tradition, gold has been mined near the origin of this river in a village named as Piska near Ranchi. This is one of the prime reasons that Subarnarekha was referred to the Gold Streak. There are numerous legends which states that gold particles are present in sandy beds. Moreover, its name is also the combination of 2 main words referring to line/streak and gold in the Indian languages.
After it originates from the Nagri/Piska and near Ranchi, it traverses long distances via Ranchi as well as eastern Singhbhum state districts. Further, it flows for a few short distances via Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal for 80 kms via Odisha Balasore district. From there, it flows for the next 75 kms and joins the Bay of Bengal near Talsari. The Subarnarekha Basin is extremely small amongst multi-state basins. It covers a drainage area of 1.92 million hectares. |
