Summary
[edit]DescriptionSunrise over the Soo Locks and the historic International Railroad Bridge.jpg |
English: The Soo Locks date back to the mid-1800s and carry more cargo by weight than any other locks in the world. The Soo Locks play an essential role in the delivery of cargo from ports around the Great Lakes to the rest of the world. The International Railroad Bridge began service in 1887 but has been expanded since then. It is one of the few bridges in North America to have more than one type of movable span. It actually has three, two of which are visible in the photo. These separate and distinctive structures carry rail traffic over the St. Marys River and associated canals. |
