Summary

[edit]
Description

Another one from Paul Christian's Rare Plants nursery (for once a justifiable epithet. He does sell some very rare plants). C.integra is from the mountains of Greece. Purists might well object to the way I grow these things all jumbled up together instead of as isolated exhibits, but my choices are always of species described as good garden plants (rare does not mean delicate) and I like to see them interact. Plants rarely grow in isolation in the wild and there's no reason to think they'll do better that way in cultivation. So there.

The Fritillaria behind has not been trodden on - it's supposed to look like that. It'll stand up straight when it's good and ready. It was supposed to be F.graeca but it's turned out to be meleagris (and there were supposed to be three of them). This is DeJager's latest cock-up. I can furnish details if you like but basically, at least as far as Fritillaries are concerned, don't be too surprised if they send the wrong species and the bulbs are all dried out (you can send tulips and crocus as dry as you like but not fritillaries). Bulbs bought from Broadleigh and Christian's at the same time arrived plump and healthy and have come up fine and correctly identified so there's no excuse.
