English: Built in 1758, this building was constructed by the Moravian settlers of Bethlehem, and served as a hotel and tavern for travelers visiting the area. The building was altered in the 19th Century, with the first renovation being carried out in 1826, eventually becoming a five-story Italianate-style brick building, with only a portion of the original structure surviving inside the larger structure. The building was restored to its 18th Century appearance in 1983. The building features a rusticated fieldstone exterior, clay shingle jerkinhead roof, shed dormers, six-over-six double-hung windows and nine-over-six double-hung windows with brick arches above, brick chimneys, an entrance porch on the south facade, and a courtyard to the north that once housed an addition to the original building that was constructed in the 19th Century to expand the hotel. The hotel today serves as a museum, tavern, and distillery, which highlight the building’s mid-18th Century Moravian roots, and serving as an anchor of Bethlehem’s revitalized historic Main Street. The building was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The building is a contributing structure in the Central Bethlehem Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, and expanded to include additional buildings in 1988, and a contributing structure in the Historic Moravian Bethlehem District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and as a National Historic Landmark in 2012.
