r to riseto a sufficient height to flood part of the main land peninsula, thus forming severalislands, of which this is the largest. The River Styx, an arm of the lake that empties into it back of the moyntain, isquieter than any place around. It is a romantic spot, and on account of the solitudethat prevails is a favorite abode for such birds as herons, which stand in the water onone leg, heedless of all that surrounds them. Hendersons Cove is probably the most beautiful spot on the lake ; it is made soby the rugged bluffs that overhang it, which are covered by a hardy growth of oakand hemlock. Trips by boat to the cove are one of the fascinating pleasures of lifehere. The lake finds its outlet by the Musconetcong River, which flows in an irregular•course and empties into the Delaware 40 miles distant. At times the Canal Companyutilizes the water as a means for feeding the Canal, and at such times the lake surfacerecedes two feet or more. DELAWARE, LACKAWANNA & WESTERN R. R. 45
