English: Sumburgh House lighthouse information board The lighthouse marks the most southerly point of the Shertland Islands. It was designed by Robert Stevenson and was the first lighthouse built on the Shetland Islands. The site around the lighthouse is an RSPB nature reserve. Sumburgh Head is one of the UK's network of 14 ground based reference stations, providing a Differential Global Positioning Systems (DGPS) which is a satellite based navigation system provided for the mariner.
