The following excerpt from McCienachan's "History of Freemasonry in the State of New York," Vol. IV, page 268, furnishes the following important statements concerning 801015 Lodge: "Suffolk Lodge, No. 401, was originally warranted in 1797, and stood No. 80 on the Grand Lodge Register. The Lodge ceased to exist about the year 1824, and was revived in 1856. Several of the members of the Lodge at the revival were among the members who belonged to it under zitteldagel WewentL,:adnd one otnthem 18711 the .t,odietn,ter terof the.original bo5;t.erTI'le jrWels ■72 engraved onethel the 'Oult-- ter 00, the old paper. all bear that number. and the Lodge was. to all intents and purposes. the some Lodge that was warranted in 1797. Its original number 00 wee still vacant. The Lodge, therefore, in 1876, directed Wor. Taboos H. Smote, who was then Master, to apply at the Annual Communclation of the Grand Lodge, In that year, for the restoration of Its old number, which request was unanimously granted. This action of the Grand Lodge was endorsed on the wanant by R.. IV:. JAMES M. AUSTIN, Grant Secretary. In February, 1850, a dispeneation was granted to Turns Darrow, CALEB KINNER, Cuanza A. Ft°, Jon,. R. Serraan, Gnaws. W. DASSING, Jouw M. WILLIAMSON, Lawns WHartaa and Tun= 0. Cur. no, to revive the old Ledge, and the Bret meeting was held February 26, 1850. The test six were members of the old Lodge. The Bret officers were 'fume DAYTON, Mester, Oman frustran, Senior Warden; Jettaulart DARLING, Junior Warden: Mouse W. Ittetuso, Secretary: Thing 0. Denote, Senior Deacon, Lams WHEELER, Junior lhacon. The Bret meeting under the warrant was held July 8, 1856, when the officer. were Installed by Sawsu. The first applicante for degree. were: Cnestaa E. DATIVES, Gonne M. Mews, CHARLES W. Mutt.. Jr.. Cuestas F. WINNER, Samna. C. Roe and Amason T. KING. Of the above, Cnentes E. DAYTON, GEORGE M. DAYTON and Cantles W. 104stneo, Jr., were the first to receive the degrees, they having been initiated, palmed and raised at the same meeting. The meeting-place of the Lodge when It resumed labor In 1858 wag at Port Jefferson Ina room then known as Suwanet Hall. It afterward occupied a room over F. F. Darling's store, where it remained until 1889, when It moved to its present guar.r in the third story of the building adjoining the Townsend House on Hotel Square ...
