Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Venngarn castle, Uppland, Sweden.
Wenngarn is mentioned in a letter already in the 1160s - in connection with Sweden's first Archbishop Stefan. Since then, different things have owned the estate and through his grandmother Sigrid Eskilsdotter becomes Gustav Vasa owner in the 1550s. In the early 17th century, Jacob De la Gardie leases the estate and his as Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie buys Wenngarn in 1653 and begins a large rebuilding 1661. Around 1695, when Willem Swidde performed his copper engraving of the Venngarns castle in Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna, the castle had on the courtyard side between the stairwell and the grandchildren arcade gallery and sculpted-soft wooden tents. The facades were originally whitewashed with decorations and details in different stone colors. The decorations around the windows were painted in carbon black and red, the corner chains in gray. Balustrades and sculptures in both wood and stone were also painted gray. The ceiling was clad with red colored shavings.

Svenska: Venngarns slott, Uppland, Sverige.
