Sue Harvard Sings. Young Soprano Displays a Voice of Brilliant Quality. Sue Harvard, a soprano in youthful prime, with a former Metropolitan season and recent English tour to her credit, gave a recital in Aeolian Hall last evening, assisted by Ethel Watson Usher at the piano. Her voice, though apology was made for its condition, was of brilliant quality, commanding varied effects, mainly well controlled. In fact, it was too often "effect" and not the expressive art that conceals art and becomes sincerity. An exception was the early group of Welsh folksongs, an artistic heritage of the singer's own, and in two instances charming. Another group, that of American composers, showed some originality of interpretation, while the alternating Italian, French and German airs seemed rather too facile imitation of foreign stars than an independent evocation of the spirit of classic masters. A large audience found much to enjoy in what Miss Harvard offered of such volume and variety.
