Description

Southern Appalachian Mountain bogs are one of North America’s rarest habitats. They’ve vital to several endangered species, and provide important habitat for several migratory birds of conservation concern. Western North Carolina’s Upper French Broad River basin is home to a concentration of these bogs, and the Service has long worked with local partners, including the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy, to conserve these areas.



In early May, Service biologist Sue Cameron joined CMLC Land Protection Director Tom Fanslow visited a pair of Henderson County bogs to survey birds.
