[edit]DescriptionSubmarine Torpedo Made in Alexandria VA.jpg |
English: Picture of a WW2 era U.S. submarine launched torpedo (Mark 14), made at the U.S. Naval Torpedo Station in Alexandria, V.A., being towed in a parade. |
Date |
between circa 1942 and circa 1945 date QS:P,+1942-00-00T00:00:00Z/8,P1319,+1942-00-00T00:00:00Z/9,P1326,+1945-00-00T00:00:00Z/9,P1480,Q5727902 |
Source | My Grandfather built Torpedoes at the Alexandria Plant, and is supposedly the figure at the left, trailing the torpedo. |
Author | No markings on the photograph I have... It's large (10" x 8") so it's probably professionally done. I talked to someone at the Torpedo Factory Art Gallery which now occupies the site of the original US Naval Torpedo Station in Alexandria Virginia, and they claimed to have a smaller version of this photo, so it's not just a one-off copy. My guess was that it was given to workers at the factory. |
