Summary
[edit]DescriptionStructural detail of sea defences at the River Thaw. - geograph.org.uk - 1190839.jpg |
English: Structural detail of sea defences at the River Thaw. For most of the shoreline around Breaksea Point there are sea defences comprising a concrete wall of a concave seaward facing profile with overhanging lip. The structure becomes more complex near the river mouth, presumably because there is little to no protection from the sea by the beach. Part of the wall can be seen in this photograph as can wooden bulwarks incorporated into the bank. The concreted river banks have been stepped on both sides of the river though they are different in profile on each side. Further past the river the wall is lower with groynes incorporated into the structure. The wall continues along the coast effectively blocking ingress of the sea into the former estuary where the present lagoon exists. |
