Description |
English: Albert Hansen was one of Seattle’s first jewelers, beginning in 1883 and continuing in various locations for thirty years. This photo shows the street clock in front of Hansen’s store at 624 First Avenue, on the southeast corner of Cherry and First Avenue. Street clocks such as this one were manufactured by Joseph Mayer and Brothers and often stood in front of jewelers or watchmakers. The clocks sometimes moved with the business when it relocated. This clock later appears at Albert Hansen’s location at 1010 Second Avenue.Austin Seward worked for Pierson and Co., a commercial photography firm that took pictures for Mayer Bros. Building across the street from clock is the Starr Building. For biographical information on Albert Hansen, see funeral notice in The Seattle Times, October 21, 1934. Stamp on verso: Pierson and Company Photographers, Seattle, Wash.
