English: Maj. Walter D. Reece takes his final breath before being dunked underwater in a training exercise to prepare him for the 9D6 Helo Dunker during the Aircraft Survival Training Course July 28. The ASTC instructors teach pilots and crew how to properly wear equipment, deal with medical situations such as Hypoxia and how to escape a sinking aircraft. Petty Officer 2nd Class Jeffrey J. Crowley said Hypoxia happens when the body is subjected to a lack of oxygen. “The Hypoxia training we are given allows you to really understand what happens when you have lack of oxygen,” said Reece. “It is great that we have a safe environment to train in and makes you more comfortable with learning these new things.” |
