mountain side. As I have already told you, the people ofChosen like to bury their dead in pleasantplaces on a hillside. But in these days theJapanese make burying grounds near everyvillage, and have a law that the people shallbe buried in them. This is really a sensiblelaw, for a great deal of land that would havefurnished food for the people has been usedfor graves in Chosen, in other days. But the Chosen people are just like otherfolks; they like their own ways of doingthings. The old man whose funeral I havejust told you about was well-to-do, and hissons did not wish to bury him in the villagecemetery. So by paying a good deal ofmoney, they were allowed to take him faraway into the hills, and bury him accordingto the old, custom. I have hardly begun to tell you of the in-teresting things that we see in Chosen; butI shall not write any more about this land justnow. I hope that whenever you hear in Sab-bath school a call from Chosen, you will helpall you can, and I am sure you will.

This time wewent aboard a small boat going toFoochow, in South China. After our visitthere, we went to Amoy, then to Swatowand Canton. In all these places our missiona-ries are working, telling the Good News tothe people of this great land. Three days ago we were in Hongkong, where we went aboard a fine large boat sailingfor Manila, in the Philippine Islands. The strip of water between Hongkong andManila is one of the places on the sea that isalways hard for travelers who easily get sea-sick.
