Local call number: N030848 Title: Stranahan House: Fort Lauderdale, Florida Date: ca. 1920 General note: The Stranahan House, located at 335 SE 6th Ave. in downtown Fort Lauderdale, was built by New River pioneer Frank Stranahan. This site was originally home to a trading post, post office and general store. Stranahan's trading post catered to the Seminole hide trade. Later renovations added a second story to the home, which became the residence of Frank and Ivy Stranahan in 1906. Ivy Stranahan, Fort Lauderdale's first school teacher, lived in the home until her death in 1971. In 1973, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
