Description
English: I travelled all the way from the central turnaround of this route,Am Kupfergraben near Friedrichstrasse Station, one which it shared with the 46 and 49 to Niederschoeneweide. All 3 routes were operated by REKO double ended motor cars with two trailers by which time, most other Berlin routes were operated by Tatra KT6 trams, excepting the Koepenick group. This motor car had just run around at the Rosenthal terminus prior to picking up passengers for the return journey. The border between East and West Berlin was just out of shot to behind the tram so I was a bit hesitant in waving around my camera too indiscretely here. The clock is showing two different times in this veritable time warp. To the left of the two GDR telephone kiosks, an IFA Multicar truck is waiting in Hauptstrasse. The tram is entering the end stop of the line in Friedrich-Engels-Str , formerly Reichskanzler Damm through the Siedlung Eigene Scholle. The turnaround was in a stub of track in Quickborner Strasse (formerly Luebarser Weg) which had originally served the S-Bahnhof Rosenthal on the by then abandoned Heidekrautbahn to Blankenfelde, Schildow and onwards. This line was now the border between east and west. The Barnimer Eisenbahn, which operates trains on the outer part of the Heidekrautbahn ,hopes to run services on the section past Rosenthal to Gesundbrunnen which at present are only used by special passenger trains. The No 55 bus to Weissensee also terminated here just out of picture to the right. The Heidekrautbahn is now running again, operated by the Niederbarminer.

Before cessation of cross-open border services in 1953, the 23 tram had run from this terminus to Wedding via Wollankstrasse S-Bahnhof, which was in the eastern sector, but sealed after 1961.

On 23 May 1993, route 22 became the 53, and the other two similar routes to Pankow and beyond, the 49 and 46 became the 50 and 52 operated by Tatra T6 trams also. The last service of these TE Reko cars was on 28 Jan 1995. Now the Metro Tram M1and Metrobus M21 go to Rosenthal.
