Description

Afrocarpus falcatus

English: Bole section of an Outeniqua yellowwood (A. falcatus) at Storm's River Bridge (Paul Sauer Bridge), Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Kalander / Outeniqua Yellowwood
This 640 year old Outeniqua Yellowwood was harvested (due to crown damage[?]) at Olifantsvlakte in the Tsitsikamma in 1974. This giant started life in 1334. In 1652, when Jan van Riebeeck landed at the Cape of Good Hope, this tree was already more than three centuries old. It survived the Big Fire of 1869. The timber from this tree was sold at the bi-annual Indigenous timber auction to timber buyers from the Tsitsikamma and Southern Cape region:

Hierdie 640 jaar oue kalander is in 1974 by Olifantsvlakte in die Tsitsikamma (as gevolg van kroonskade[?]) geoes. Hierdie bosreus het in 1334 begin lewe, en in 1652, toe Jan van Riebeeck aan die Kaap die Goeie Hoop land, was dit reeds meer as drie eeue oud. Dit het die Groot Brand van 1869 oorleef. Die hout van hierdie boom is op die tweejaarlikse inheemse houtveiling aan houtkopers uit die Tsitsikamma- en Suid-Kaapstreek verkoop:
