Summary
[edit]DescriptionStoney Lane Debenham - geograph.org.uk - 1093783.jpg |
English: Stoney Lane Debenham The River Deben runs for about a mile along this lane (called Stoney Lane or sometimes Derrybrook Lane) to the West of Debenham. It's reputed to be the longest ford in Britain. The river bed is metalled and is maintained by the local council as a road. It ceases being a public road at Bryces Farm and turns into a farm track and permissive footpath which leads to Ulveston Hall. There is a glacial erratic rock in the bed of the river (in the woods to the south just after the river parts company with the lane) known locally as the "Groaning Stone". It is reputed to roll over and groan at midnight - I've been there at midnight and I can confirm that it doesn't! |
