Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Stone of Refuge, Craigmailing This stone, which is now set in a stone dyke on Witchcraig Hill is one of four, each one Scot's Mile from Torphicen Preceptory or Priory. These formed the boundary of the medieval refuge round the priory, within which fugitives received sanctuary from the law or from their pursuers. The stone has a Patriarchal Cross (similar to the Cross of Lorraine, although that often has the two cross bars equally distant from the ends of the upright bar) carved in relief on the west side and incised on the east.
