[edit]
Description
English: Stone carvings at St Mary's church (2) St Mary's boasts a rich collection of Early English C13 carvings on the capitals of the nave and chancel arcades: in the opinion of the Pevsner guide the quality of the design and the sculpture exceeds Llandaff, and rivals Wells cathedral. There are human faces ranging from the serene to the grotesque as well as a variety of beasts and, here, the type of ornamental foliage known as 'stiff-leaf'.
