English: This image is of Seton House, an old railway hostelry at Shalalth run by one Ma Struthers. The rail line is immediately behind the house, while the porch and docks seen here face towards the lake-reflection phenomenon known as the Totem Pole, which has now been erased by the presence of a large hydroelectric plant on the point forming the reflection, which is also the site of the hydro townsite; and was also obliterated by raised lake levels since the Bridge River Power Project's completion in the 1950s.
In addition to travellers to and from the mines, which was the mainstay of economic life in boom-era Shalalth, Seton House was also a favourite among the many railway lodges up and down the Pacific Great Eastern because of its view, good cooking, quiet life, and the benign climate of the Seton Valley. This image was taken by a Mr. Boucher in 1946 and so is in the public domain under Canadian copyright law. |
