Description
English: <a href="http://www.historyextra.com/stirlingheads" rel="nofollow">The Stirling Heads</a> decorate the ceiling of the King's Inner Chamber, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stirling_Castle" rel="nofollow">Stirling Castle.</a>

This painted wood carving is of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_of_Guise" rel="nofollow">Queen Mary,</a> second wife of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_V_of_Scotland" rel="nofollow">James V.</a>
She was Regent of Scotland for several years after the death of her husband, during the infancy of her daughter, Mary.
She died at Edinburgh Castle in 1560.
The original of this was one of the two Heads lost in a fire in 1940 (the other was of Henry VIII of England, uncle of James V). Replicas were carved from detailed drawings made of the Heads in the early 19th Century, by the wife of the Deputy Governor of the castle, Jane Graham.
The round carving is about 1m in diameter.
