English: The Church of the Holy Rude is described as the second oldest building in Stirling, after Stirling Castle, begun around 1230. Other sources say that the oldest elements in the current structure were built in the 15th century. Holy Rude meand Holy Cross. King James VI (later King James I of England) was crowned here at the age of 13 months, after his mother, Mary Queen of Scots, had been forced to abdicate. John Knox preached the sermon. |
