| Description |
English: Stinking Iris (Iris foetidissima) So named because the crushed leaves have a distinctive smell, which some consider to be like roast beef, which gives the plant one of its alternative names, the Roast-beef Plant. One of the plants here, in the left centre foreground, is in flower - later in the year the seed head will open up to reveal bright red seeds, which remain on the plant for much of the winter.
