Summary

[edit]
Description

Sticta caulescens De Not. 20081209.3 (photo 2.66) Parque Nacional Huerquehue, Chile

Found near base of hardwood trunks in dark moist montane forests. Note that this is "caulescent" in the sense of being attached at a single point; there are three similar species in this area, the other two have isidiate margins. They are all quite common along streams and in otherwise dark moist places, always at or very near the base of mossy old trees. The caulescent habit is thought to give them a leg up over the surrounding mosses, with which they must compete.
