Title |
English: Sternwheeler "Nellie" at Snohomish, Washington, ca. 1876 |

Description |
English: Snohomish, formerly called Cadyville and Snohomish City, is the oldest town in Snohomish County. E. C. Ferguson founded the town in the 1860s at the point where the Snohomish and Pilchuck Rivers join together. The settlement served as a trading post for people living along the rivers.
This photo shows the Snohomish waterfront sometime in the late 1870s. The sternwheeler "Nellie" is pulled up near Ferguson's wharf and warehouse. The large building behind the warehouse is the Exchange Hotel. The "Nellie" was built especially for the shallow waters of the Snohomish River. The vessel was said to be able to float in only twenty inches of water.
