[edit]DescriptionStephenPleasonton.jpg | Portrait of Stephen Pleasonton (c.1776-1855), an employee in the State Department who was responsible for safeguarding the Declaration of Independence and other government records when the British burned Washington D.C. during the war of 1812. He later became the Fifth Auditor of the Treasury Department from 1817 until his death in 1855, and was most famous for heading the Lighthouse Establishment for over three decades. | ||
