Description Stemma Angeli of Cloz, Italia, imperial. Granted in August 5, 1569, to Antonio, Hieronymo (Gerolamo), Bernardo, Andrea, Petro et Jacobo (Giacomo), sons of Gaspare (Caspar), changing the earlier coat of arms' crest, an Agnus Dei in natura bearing a red-crossed white banner, and putting instead of it a crowned Angel dressed gold with right arm raised, "by special grace as a reminder to the Name". The augmentation of honor diploma of 1569 recognised their venetian original nobility. The Genealogisches taschenbuch der adeligen Osterreichs (Maass, 1905) calls them "knights", but Rietstap and the Brünner Taschenbuch: Genealogisches Taschenbuch der Ritter- u. Adelsgeschlechter, Zweiter Jahrgang. (Brünn, 1877) call them "imperial nobles". According to researcher Allen Rizzi, this coat of arms was later adopted by most of Angeli branches living in Cloz, including those generated by Zonan, Gaspare's (probable) brother. Such adoption is an evidence of consanguinity. The Angeli family moved from Venice to Cloz in the mid-15th century. According to Vincenzo Coronelli (1703), the family was born in Venice and was made patrician in an undeclared date, getting access to the Great Council. According to Antonio Longo (1817), two main branches flourished, the first was extinct in the plague of 1177, the other survived but lost patricianship by unknown reason and was transferred into the cittadini originarii class in 1187, later becoming notable by their service to the State as magistrates. Tradition says in Cloz they were recognized as nobles since their arrival. From Gaspare's sons descendency latter emerged the branches Von Angeli and Angeli Ritter von Forstemann, living mostly in Austria.
