Deutsch: Steinkreuz im Steinbecker Esch in Recke-Steinbeck, Kreis Steinfurt, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland. Dieses Riesenkreuz oder auch Voßkreuz genannte Kreuzstein ist ganz aus einem Block Ibbenbürener Sandstein vom nahen Kälberberg gehauen. Mit seinen Maßen Höhe 310 Zentimeter, Breite 70 Zentimeter, Tiefe 25 Zentimeter ist es das höchste schlichte Steinkreuz Westfalens. Es steckt mit dem Fuß des Schaftes in einer Nute, die in eine große Sandsteinplatte eingearbeitet ist. Das Kreuz befindet sich gut 1,5 Kilometer westlich der Steinbecker Pfarrkirche an der von der Quellenstraße abgehenden Zufahrt zum Bauernhof Stelthove (früher Voß). Bereits in der Urkatasterkarte von 1826 verzeichnet, dürfte es wohl immer schon dort gestanden haben. Der heutige Wirtschaftsweg führte bereits im 18. Jahrhundert von den Steinbrüchen des Kälberbergs nach Recke und hatte zugleich die Funktion eines Kirch- und Liekweges. Das Alter liegt im Dunkeln, ebenso ist seine ursprüngliche Funktion unklar. Eine örtliche Sage deutet es als Gedenk- oder Totenkreuz (Sühnekreuz), möglicherweise ist es aber auch ein altes Grenzmal. Während es noch in der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts frei in der Landschaft stand, ist es mittlerweile in eine Wallhecke integriert und daher nicht mehr weithin sichtbar. Durch Unterspülungen hatte sich die Sandsteinplatte teils abgesenkt, sodass das Riesenkreuz in den vergangenen Jahren sehr schief stand und möglicherweise umzukippen drohte. Diese Gefahr ist jedoch mittlerweile beseitigt worden. Auch wenn es nicht unter Denkmalschutz steht, ist das Voßkreuz doch ein bedeutsames kulturgeschichtliches Zeugnis. |
