Title
English: Steel Edged Axe Head
Description
English:

A wedge-shaped piece of pitted metal, some rust spots visible. The sharp edge much smoother from sharpening.

Located in the Blacksmith Shop, Glen Haven, this axe head is from the 1860s. Created of wrought iron, the head has a steel edge, a very modern update for its era. Steel contains an alloy of iron and carbon whereas wrought iron is composed entirely of iron. Its wedge shape provided a more durable design that could be sharpened to a finer edge.
