Description
English: Caption on image: Northwestern Steamship Co's "S.S. Tacoma" leaving Seattle for Nome, June 1st 04. Nowell 1014
  • Subjects (LCTGM): Ships--Washington (State)--Seattle; Piers & wharves--Washington (State)--Seattle
  • Subjects (LCSH): Tacoma (Ship); Pike Street Wharf (Seattle, Wash.)
This pier shed, Pier 8 / Pike Street Wharf / Pike Street Pier, built 1896, was replaced in 1905 by the current structure known since the 1940s as Pier 59, now housing the Seattle Aquarium. (HistoryLink gives a somewhat different sequence of events, and strongly suggests that this 1904 structure is the current one. It is certainly the same shape.)
