Description

Transcribed from photograph: "Ships. 1. Nellie (steamer). 2. Wm. F. Munroe (steamer)."

This is looking roughly north (maybe a tad east of north) in Seattle, pre-Fire, 1888 or 1889. This Colman's Wharf, built in 1888, burned in the Fire; it was between Columbia and Marion; that's Denny Hill (later regraded away) in the near background just left of the wharf. MOHAI has a photo, first published as a cabinet card, by D.R. Judkins that shows the wharf and the blocks uphill from it, but they apparently don't have it online.
