Caption on image: 5627. Steamer Dora at Columbia Glacier, Alaska.

Printed on verso: Steamer Dora at Columbia Springs. The stanch steamer Dora has the largest mail run in the world, a round trip of over 2000 miles, from Valdez to the Aleutian Islands. Occasionally during the summer months an excursion is run from Valdez to Columbia Glacier which steadily discharges an ice mass into the waters of Prince Sound.

The steamship Dora was in operation from 1880-1920. In 1898, the Dora became part of a feeder service fleet that traveled from San Francisco to Alaska..
