English: Steam pumping engines, Thanckes Oil Fuel Depot Data from Colin Bowden as follows - Two horizontal duplex tandem triple-expansion non-rotative pumping engines. Worthington Pump Co. Ltd., London (built at Newark). Nos.3003-4. 1917. Installed (2nd-hand) c.1921 or 1937. Stopped and SCRAPPED 1992.
Still at work when photographed inside this MOD depot. They were used for fuelling warships from Devonport and were designed to pump heavy fuel oil (FFO). This fuel was largely obsolete by the 1980s. |
