| Description |
English: Steam engine, Frogmore Mills This drives part of a Fourdrinier paper machine and is fitted with a variable speed control. It was built by Ashworth & Parker of Bury and is typical of their engines. Many were supplied for paper mill drives. This engine remains in use. Plans were afoot to replace it with an electric motor to save costs but it was pointed out that as the engine's exhaust is used in the drying rollers anyway and steam must be raised on site, the engine's power is largely a bonus. I hope that it remains in use for many more years. |
