English: Statue of James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879) He was born in the city and educated at Edinburgh Academy where he was known as 'Dafty'. However anything but,he had a paper published by the Royal Society of Edinburgh at the age of 15. Continuing his studies at Edinburgh University and Cambridge he was professor at 25 at Marischal College, Aberdeen, then Kings College,London and became the first Cavendish professor of experimental physics at Cambridge. Now recognised as one of the worlds greatest ever experimental physicists. The statue by Sandy Stoddart was unveiled in November 2008. I do like the dog peering from beneath his legs! |
