Description

Statue of Apollo. Pentelic marble. Found in Athens, at the Theater of Dionysos. Known as the "Omphalos Apollo", it was named after a base in the shape of omphalos, with which it was originally associated. Work of the 2nd century A.D. copying a bronze original sculpted in 460-450 B.C. by a competent sculptor of the Sever Style, possibly Kallamis. National Archaeological Museum. Athens, Greece. --- Άγαλμα Απόλλωνος. Μάρμαρο πεντελικό. Βρέθηκε στην Αθήνα, στο θέατρο του Διονύσου. Πρόκειται για τον λεγόμενο "Απόλλωνα του ομφαλού", που ονομάστηκε έτσι επειδή αρχικά υπέθεσαν ότι πατούσε σε μιά βάση σχήματος ομφαλού, που βρέθηκε στον ίδιο χώρο. Είναι αντίγραφο του 2ου αι. π.Χ. ενός χάλκινου πρωτοτύπου καμωμένου γύρω στα 460-450 π.Χ. από έναν αξιόλογο γλύπτη του αυστηρού ρυθμού, ίσως του Κάλαμι.
