Description
English: Boncompagni Ludovisi Collection, from Cesi Collection.

Greek island marble.

Aphrodite is represented in a crouching position as she squeezes the water out of her hair after her bath. The statue, dated to the 1st Century BC, is a variant of the famous bronze sculpture attributed to the Bithynian sculptor Diodalsas (3rd Century BC).

In the Cesi Collection - and later on - in the Boncompagni Ludovisi Collection, this Aphrodite, restored in its upper part, was placed next to the Boy with a Goose in order create the statuary group of Leda and the Swan.
