Description

Drogheda to honour handball legend Joey Maher 14 October 2008 The town of Drogheda is to honour one of its sporting legends , former World Handball Champion, Joey Maher on Saturday 25th October , when a life size sculpture of him will be unveiled at Scotch Hall overlooking the Boyne.

Joey was the first Irishman to win the world handball crown when he took the title in Toronto in 1967 , having moved to Canada and joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to concentrate onimproving his handball skills .
