Français : Les Lau ont des mythes fondateurs qui expliquent l’origine de leur monde. L’un des mythes recueillis par Pierre Maranda est celui de Laukeni, le premier homme lau. Selon ce mythe, l’univers, en forme de dôme, compte neuf étages. L’un de ces étages est la voûte céleste, lieu originel de l’homme. La femme est descendante du Python-Terre-Mère, symbole de fécondité et dispensatrice des bienfaits de la terre, vivant dans le sous-sol terrestre. Dans l’espoir d’une descendance, Laukeni est venu sur terre afin d’y enlever une femme. Retenu par celle-ci, il a été contraint de demeurer sur terre. Cette statue a été fabriquée pour Pierre Maranda. Elle représente Laukeni, tenant un casse-tête (alafolo) et portant un disque lao et une parure nasale. Cette statue est une réplique des statues positionnées aux quatre coins des temples beu laungla.
