Deutsch: Die Statue Karls des Großen wurde 1889 von Engelbert Peiffer für den Verschönerungsverein geschaffen und zunächst am Alten Fischmarkt in der Altstadt aufgestellt. Nachdem das Original im Ersten Weltkrieg eingeschmolzen worden war, wurde 1926 die heutige Kopie gegossen. Seit 1977 steht die Statue auf dem Vorplatz der St.-Ansgar-Kirche in der Michaelisstraße in der Hamburger Neustadt. Die Tafel trägt die Inschrift: Kaiser Karl der Groß 768-814 Vater Europas + Gründer Hamburgs Förderer der kirchlichen Reformen des Hl. Bonifatius, des Apostels der Deutschen Begründer des karolingischen Bildungswesens. This is a photograph of an architectural monument. It is on the list of cultural monuments of Hamburg, no. 10. |
