Description
Italiano: Collezione BNL Gruppo BNP Paribas, marmo greco insulare, probabilmente pario, integrazioni in marmo tasio. L'atleta, nudo e di giovane età, è identificato dai suoi strumenti di combattimento, gli himantes, fasce di cuoio che coprono le mani e si intrecciano sugli avambracci. Si tratta di una copia romana risalente al I sec. d.C. da un originale greco probabilmente bronzeo, della I metà del V sec a.C., rielaborazione evoluta e complessa di tipi policletei. La statua è stata rinvenuta nel 1739 negli scavi per i lavori nel palazzo del cardinale Antonio Gentili, nell'area dell'attuale via del Tritone a Roma. La reintegrazione delle parti mancanti è dovuta al restauro eseguito dallo scultore Vincenzo Pacetti tra il 1770 e il 1775
