Summary
[edit]DescriptionStation Road - geograph.org.uk - 314785.jpg |
English: Station Road The fore to middle ground of this photograph shows the northeastern end of Station Road. The houses in the distance are in 322689.
Before reclamation, most of this area (from the footpath entrance on the left to the houses in the distance) was two, deep railway cuttings with the road at this point being bridges over the two. In the far cutting was Pilsley railway station and the Great Central Railway main line. The nearer cutting contained the start of a spur off from the main line that ran southwest to join the Clay Cross to Alfreton section of the Midland Railway. In, what is now, the field to the left of the photographs the two cuttings/lines merged and there was the start of the sidings into the local colliery. The far end of the sidings ran beyond the colliery itself crossing Locko Lane. To the right of this photograph, on the land between the two cuttings was the 314803, which is the only surviving structure of the railway from that time. The footpath on the left is the Station Road end of 314789. For another photograph of Station Road, from the same viewpoint but in the opposite direction, click here 314809.
