| Description |
English: A view down onto the main railway station, in the English city of Nottingham, looking east from the station car park. This station was built by the Midland Railway Company in 1848 and rebuilt in 1904. It was previously known as Nottingham Midland to distinguish it from several other city centre stations, now all closed. The bridge across the eastern end of the Midland station carries the A60 road. Beyond this can be seen the roofs of the low level section of Nottingham London Road station, one of these now closed stations. London Road was opened by the Great Northern Railway Company in 1857. Regular passenger traffic ceased using the low level section from May 1944, although it continued to be used by freight traffic for some time after that, and it now serves as a health club. London Road also had a high level section, to the left of the low level section on this photograph, which opened in 1900, closed in 1967 and has since been demolished. |
