Usage drills, selecting the forms to be studied from the mostdiflieult ones of the lower grades, with such additions as arefound necessary; work of previous grade in oral compositioncontinued, with additional conversations on noteworthy nationalevents, matters of world-wide interest, distinguished people,occupations and professions; continuation and enlargement ofall other plans for oral work. WRITTEN LANGUAGE. Dictation continued; sentence and paragraph practice; writ-ing, by outline, reproductions and reports based on reading andobservation; original compositions of four or five paragraphs,the principles of paragraphing being carefully regarded; letterwriting. WORD STUDY. Former plans continued, and enlarged by definite attempts toextend the vocabulary, to curb absurd extravagances of speech,and to guard against objectionable slang. SPELLING.
