Description
English: French imported housing project at Zillmere, Brisbane, 1952.

The Queensland Housing Commission and French contractors built 886 houses at Zillmere under the Imported Houses (Commonwealth Sponsored) Scheme. The Zillmere project, using labour recruited overseas, was the first estate to be built under the Scheme. The French partners were the firm Messrs. Lècorchè Freres and Schroth, Paris (Information taken from: Queensland. Housing Commission, Report of the Commissioner, 1952).

This view includes some of the Housing Commission homes at Zillmere which can be compared with the non-Housing Commission homes in image numbers hch00001 and the Housing Commission homes in hch00004. Caption: Typical street of French Imported Houses, Zillmere, Brisbane.
