Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pearl (ship) Following the wreck of the 'Pearl' on 13 February 1896, the hulk was discovered on 19 February off Hancock Brothers Wharf, South Brisbane. It was raised onto Peter's slip on Friday 6 March. 'The wreck presents a deplorable appearance. The starboard side of the hull is quite sound, but the port bulwarks have been terribly smashed up. The deck has been swept clean with the exception of the cabin, forward. The boiler is out of the vessel, but the greater part of the machinery is still there. The main deck, where the bridge stood, is all broken up, and the top deck, together with the awnings has vanished completely. A few bent and twisted iron stanchions remain on the cabin deck forward, but the bow is badly smashed about. The hull was full of mud'. (Information taken from The Queenslander, 14 March 1896.).
